Social communication
Social communication therapy for adults
Social communication therapy helps adults with the social side of talking: starting and joining conversations, reading tone and nonliteral language, and understanding what people mean. You'll work by video with a licensed speech therapist on the situations that matter to you, at work and in daily life, in 30-minute sessions.
- 18 and older
- 30-minute sessions by video
- Join from home or a private room at work
- Anywhere in Texas
Good to know
The short version
- This is about how you use language with other people, not how many words you know.
- You set the goals, based on your real life.
- Sessions focus on the situations that matter to you, at work and in daily life.

Our approach
We respect how you communicate. You set the goals, based on the situations that matter to you. The point is helping you connect with people in a way that works for you, not changing who you are.
- Adults who find it hard to start, join or keep a conversation going
- Adults who miss sarcasm, hints or tone of voice, or take words very literally
- Autistic adults and adults with ADHD who want support with social communication
- Adults who find meetings, small talk or group texts confusing or tiring
When to reach out
When should I seek out an evaluation?
-
Situation: At work
- Meetings, small talk or feedback conversations feel confusing
- Misunderstandings with coworkers come up often
-
Situation: Every day
- It's hard to tell what someone meant by a message or comment
- Friendships feel hard to make or keep
If any of this sounds familiar, an evaluation is a good place to start.

What therapy looks like
-
What happens in a session?
You and your therapist work on the situations you care about, like joining a conversation, reading a confusing email or text, or getting ready for a hard talk at work. On video, it's easy to look at a real message together and talk about what the other person might have meant.
-
What do I do between sessions?
Between sessions, you try one or two strategies in real life and notice how they go. Your therapist helps you plan something specific for the week, and you talk through what happened next time.
-
How is progress tracked?
At the evaluation, we learn where communication feels hard for you and set goals together. We track them in sessions and from your own notes, and you'll get regular updates on what is working well and what we need to adjust.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Still wondering about something? A free 15-minute call is a good place to ask.
Is social communication therapy only for autistic adults?
No. Lots of adults want support with social communication, including adults with ADHD, language differences or no diagnosis at all. Autistic adults are welcome too.
Will therapy try to make me act like everyone else?
No. The goal is helping you connect and be understood in a way that works for you, not changing who you are.
Can you diagnose autism?
No. Your therapist can support social communication skills, but an autism diagnosis usually comes from a psychologist or diagnostic team. If you are seeking a formal diagnosis, we can discuss a referral during your evaluation as well.
Can I do sessions from work?
Yes, as long as you have a quiet, private space with good connection for a video call, sessions can be completed anywhere.
Ready when you are
