AAC and language skills
AAC therapy for adults
AAC, short for augmentative and alternative communication, gives adults another way to communicate when speech is limited, like a speech app, a device or a picture board. You'll work by video with a licensed speech therapist, using the device you already have or exploring a new one.

What therapy looks like
-
What happens in a session?
Your therapist works with you on using your system during real activities, like making plans, telling a story or asking for what you need. They can model on a matching copy of many common apps, or show family and support staff how to model on your device.
Since you're using your own device in your own space, practice happens where it counts. Your therapist can suggest changes to the layout or settings as you go.
-
What do I do between sessions?
Between sessions, use your system in everyday moments. If family or support staff help you, they'll learn how to model and give you time to respond. Each week you'll have a few words or skills to focus on.
-
How is progress tracked?
At the evaluation, we learn how you communicate now and set goals together, like using your system to make requests, share ideas or join conversations. We track how you use it in sessions and at home, and you'll get regular updates on what is working well and what we need to adjust.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Still wondering about something? A free 15-minute call is a good place to ask.
Can you evaluate me for a new device?
Yes. We can work with a device you already have access to, or complete a full evaluation for a new device.
Can family or support staff join sessions?
Yes. People who communicate with you every day are a big part of how AAC works, so they're welcome to join and learn how to support you.
Can AAC therapy be done over video?
Yes. You use your own system in your own space, and your therapist can see how you use it and suggest changes as you go.
My speech changed after a stroke or illness. Can you help?
Ask us on the free call. Speech changes after a stroke or with a medical condition usually need your medical team to be part of the plan, and we'll help you figure out the right next step.
