Speech therapy in Lubbock

How speech therapy works in Lubbock

Lubbock is where Talking Jay Speech Therapy started, and it is still home. Families here have several routes to speech therapy, and many use more than one at a time.

Children under 3 can be referred to Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), which Lubbock ISD runs for the area from its building on 19th Street. Once a child turns 3, the public school district where the family lives handles evaluations for speech and language services at school. Inside the city that can be Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD or Lubbock-Cooper ISD, depending on the address, so two families a few streets apart may deal with different districts.

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center runs a speech-language and hearing clinic on its campus, where graduate students see children and adults under certified, licensed faculty. Lubbock also has private clinics that see clients in person.

Online therapy fits beside all of these. Sessions happen by video from home, so there is no drive across town between school pickup and dinner, and no waiting room for a toddler. Families in Wolfforth, Slaton or Shallowater get the same appointment as families inside the Loop.
