Speech therapy in El Paso
How speech therapy works in El Paso
El Paso is split among several large school districts, and early intervention runs through the regional education service center, so the right first step depends on your child's age and your address.
For children under 3, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) in El Paso County includes the program run by Region 19 Education Service Center. It serves children from birth to 3 with developmental delays, diagnosed conditions, or hearing or vision loss, and it works with families at home and in the community. The Texas HHS program search confirms the program for your address. From age 3, school evaluations come from your public school district. El Paso ISD and Socorro ISD are the two largest districts in the county, and Ysleta, Canutillo and Clint ISDs serve other parts of the city and county, so neighbors can end up in different districts.
For in-person care, the UTEP Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic sees community members in English and Spanish, and El Paso Children's Hospital offers speech and feeding therapy for children from infancy to 18. Private clinics across the city see clients in person too.
Online therapy is one more option. Sessions happen by video from home or work, so a 30-minute session doesn't turn into an hour on I-10 or Loop 375. You keep the same therapist anywhere in the state, as long as you're in Texas for each session.
